Evaluation Task 7

For the front cover i have learnt that the use of the same font for all of the cover lines makes the page seem a bit simple and boring and also the use of font used can determine whether or not it is good.  for my preliminary front cover the font i used, i feel now is not good as it has curvy edges on the letters and this just doesnt fit well with a magazie cover, whereas now on my proper front cover i have used more than one font which are all easy to read and not boring, as well as being good at standing out and not curvy, they are more straight and this makes the page look a whole lot better.  for the masthead, on my preliminary, i put in a font i feel now would still be a good font to use as it is big and easy to read, however, the colour i used for it is not in anyway good at all and would never be seen on a magazine, this is because i thought the effect it has would make it look good, however magazines now tend to have just one plain colour and still look good, and so for my proper front cover i chose a bold font with a yellow colour which stood out amongst the rest of the page, and also i made the E bigger to empahsise the mastheads dominance.  for the background colour, for my preliminary i used a gradient which i know now is not a good thing to use as most magazines use a white background anyway and so for my proper front cover i have just used a white background.  i have learnt that you shouldnt really cut out parts of a body on the photo which i have done on my preliminary, where his hands have been left out and so for my proper cover i applied this and left in everything but waist down which alot of magazine today have and so i felt that i learnt from my mistakes on this one.  for the cover lines, my preliminary had nowhere near enough, as there was still alot of space which needed filling up and even though i had lined them up well i still needed to include more which would make the page look alot better, for my proper cover however, i have filled up all the spaces where there were spaces and have plenty of cover lines suitable for a music magazine and so i have learnt alot from this.

For the contents page i have learnt how to position things correctly.  firstly for my preliminary contents page i had the heading in the correct place, but again like the front cover it had the wrong colour and so now i have changed it to a better, bolder font, also with a little background surrounding it, to make it stand out.  also the actual contents i ad put in wasnt really eanough and it did cover quite to many pages e.g. the exclusive interview was from pages 12-15, which is not really ever going to be that long for any magazine and now i have learnt from this and applied it to my proper contents page where all the articles are to be on one page except the main article which is over a double page.  also the positioning of the articles in the contents need to be more spread out and have more added to them, which i have now done in my proper one, where i have had it coming all the way down the rigt side of the page and also included a band index for extra content on part of the left of the page.  for the fonts of the text, it is again the same as the front cover on the preliminary which does show good continuity however it is thsame and like i said before, the font is not a good one to use because of the curved letters and so now i have learnt from this and used a better font which is also a black colour and easier to read.  for the photos on my preliminary contents page i had placed the ne of the canteen in line with the text which showed good positioning, although it wuld have looked better with a border or something surrunding it, as well as with the two pictures of te two lads at the bottom of the page, and so for my proper contents page, i have created a border for each image and had the artists popping out of them for good style and effect.  also for the two lads, i have not cut them out very well as they both had curly hair which i found difficult to cut around, and for the lad on the right, the photo i took of him i did not include his whole of the top of his head and so when it came to cutting out and editing, i had to stretch his head and cut around it more circularly to try and shape it again, and this kind of failed and so i learnt from this and have now been able to cut out images alot better, and also, the images i have taken have included wole body parts e.g. the head, so that i dont have any trouble in the editing.  again for the background like the front cover of my preliminary i used a gradient which is not a good look and so again i have used a white background for my proper contents and it looks a whole lot better than if i were to use a gradient.

Evaluation Task 6

From the process of constructing my magazine i have found out and used quite a few different technologies that are involved with it.

For the planning of the magazine and its inspiration, the technologies i used were things like Animoto, Scribd, Bubbl.us and also Prezi.

The technologies i used to create my magazine were first of all a computer to use the technologies, i also used Photoshop Elements, blogger in which to post all of my research and development, a Canon EOS 450D camera whcih i used to take all of my shots, an also microsoft word to write down any scripts, profiles and my article.

Evaluation Task 5

there were many ways i attracted my audience trough my front cover, the first and most important i felt, was the image of the artist.  this is because if there is a boring old person on there nobody is going to be interested and so i wanted him to stand out and look the part.  the ways in which i did this were that i gave him the hat to wear in the position it is in to give him style as well as him holding open his jacket to reveal his T-shirt which had a colourful graphic on there which would attract peoples attention, i also had him give a serious face to show that he is a serious person and this would get the audience to possibly want to find out more about him and who is is.  for the masthead i used the large E of Elements to grab the attention of the audience as it pops out at them and this would then get them to see across the rest of the page at things like the cover lines and also the photo.  the cover lines i used include the names of some famous Hip-Hop artists and this is already a selling point as audiences would want to read about their favourites if they see their names being mentioned on the front cover.  as the fonts are simple and easy to read, and colours used are good contrast with each other, this lets the audience think that the magazine will get better and so they would be attracted to read more.

for my contents page the ways in which it attracts the audience is firstly, the colour scheme used on the page is similar to the front cover and so this already will have the reader interested as they will not be turning onto a page cpmpletely different which might put them off and so tey will want to read it.  there are again simple and easy to read fonts including, again, the artists mentioned on the fornt cover as well as many more and so the audience will then want to look up these artists in the magazine and read about them and to do this they will have to look either under the band index provided or under the heading 'Tis week'.  both of these parts of the contents page will attract the reader because they have a yellow font with a black background just like the title of the page and all of these three will attract the reader because they are bold, stand out and so will pull the attention of the reader towards them.  the photos used are put in boxes with what they are about and the page numbers they are on, in big yellow and black background, like the headings, and so the readers are attracted to these.  for the boxes of the photos the artists are covering part of the box and so this gives the image as if they are coming out at you and so this will attract readers as they will think it is a good style to use.

for my double page spread the things that attract the audience are, firstly the colour scheme once again has been used the same way as the front cover and contents page, showing continuity and so the readers will like this and think it has good similarities.  the artists name is in a big black font at the top centre of the page and so the audience will automatically be taken to this and then will know it is about this artist, under this is then the heading of the article in a bold yellow font which can easily be read and so the readers will read this and then want to read on as it has a metaphor which they will want to pick up on and wonder why it says this.  te colours for the article are black with a yellow background and so again will be easy to read, and then for when the artist is talking the font is in a red colour and this will again be easy to read against the yellow background but also the reader will then be easily shown when it is the artist talking and if they want can just skip the article and read only wat the artist is saying.  for the photo used it has the artist against a brick wall covering the whole page and the artist is on the left page and so this will be the forst thing the audience will see and so they will see the picture and the position the artist is in and want to read about him more as his stance is attractive and could give out different signals which the reader would want to find out about.  there is then a quote inbetween the article and the artist and this attracts the reader as it is big and bold and starts and finishes with big speech marks which the readers will think is clever and the quote itself will make the reader want to read the article as it will intise them as to what they can read about and who this artist is if they do not already know.

Evaluation Task 4

Disposable income: magazines, clothes, food when out, games, CD's.

the reason this person would buy my magazine is because their musical preference is mainly Hip-Hop and so this will already appeal to this person.  also, as this person is thinking of studying media, and already buys magazines then having bougt this magazine will gain him more experience and knowledge of what sort of things would be included as well as im being able to keep up to date with his favourite artists.

Evaluation Task 3

if my magazine were to be published and distributed the publisher i would like it to be with would be IPC Media.  this is because they are the leading magazine publisher in the UK and so if my magazine were to go with them, then it would hopefully attract more attention than a less known publisher.  as this publisher is the publisher for NME which is a magazine which includes alot about mainstream music and well known artists, i feel that it would be good to have the same publisher as this well known magazine even though my magazine is a Hip-Hop genre.  although it is a Hip-Hop genre it still includes alot about well known artists including Example and Professor Green and so would be perfect in my opinion to be published by IPC Media as a kind of sub genre to something like NME, what i mean by this is that it could be taking into account, any Hip-Hop artists mentioned in NME and then elaborating on them and including alot more in my magazine.  as IPC Media already produce over 60 iconic brands with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men – almost 26 million UK adults, this shows straight away that the company is a very successful one and so even with 60 brands already, i belive that wiith an extra one like mine, it would be good for it, and i am hoping that my magazine could be published with IPC Media to give my magazine the best chance of getting sales and publicity.

Evaluation Task 2

Similarities:
- in terms of costume, they both are wearing similar hooded jackets and also flat peak caps.
- they both have similar, serious looking, facial expressions.
- they both have tall/skinny appearances.

Differences:
- the first picture shows the artist lookind driectly at the camera whereas the second artist has his head turned and is looking away from the camera.
- the hats are worn slighlty differently, the first artist has it placed to the side a little and has air showing, however the second artist has his on straight and covering his hair.
- the first artist has his jacket open and is holding it as if to reveal himself, but the second artist has his done up and his underlayers done up aswell.

Evaluation Task 1

For the title of the magazine i looked at many different other music magazines for inspiration of the masthead such as Vibe and Rolling stone and i noticed that they have the masthead going across the whole of the top and not just in the corner of the page like Q magazine and so i wanted to intrpret this into my own title,  by having a simple font and also having it stretch across the whole page.  this is when i came up with the name 'Elements' which is releated to hip-hop and so i felt this was perfect for my magazine and i then applid this to my front cover where i had it stretch across the whole page but i left the 'E' larger than the rest so that it pops out to the audience and gets them to notice the magazine.

For the graphology/page layout of the front cover i used similar ways of laying it out to how Vibe magazine does it where i have the photo of my artist covering a large chunk of the page and being centered in the page and ten surrounding him on the left and right going all of the way down the page i have cover lines and some quotes relating to certain artists which are there as cover line.  i then have the masthead in a siilar place, stretched out across the top of the page to make everything fit in with it and also another aspect which is similar to Vibe is that i have the artists name from the front cover have its own specific font which stands out amongst the rest to show who it is about.
For the page laout of the contents page i had actually used similar ways to Kerrang's contents pages where they have boxed images of the main articles with the main artist being in the largest box and so i interpreted this into my own style where i had used the box idea and then had the artists coveringparts of the box to make it look like they were popping out at the audience and i felt this gave the page good style.  i then used similar ways to most other music magazines of the other non-main articles being listed into categoreis e.g 'features' or 'reviews' because i felt this would allow the audience to find what they were looking for much easier than aving to flick through to find it.  i then had a band index which other magazines also use, and had this as a list on the left of the page and te page numbers next to it, and made it fit in well with the rest of the page.  i then used my own idea of having a microphone coming down the whole of the right hand side of the page, and placed it next to the categories of cover lines and i used it to give style and creativity as no other magazines had done this before that i know of and also it reinforced the genre of the magazine as well.
For the page layout of the double page spread i had taken the idea of having the photo covering the whole page, from a Vibe magazines double page spread, and then aplied this to my own where i had a brick wall with the main artist on the left page covering the whole page.  i then had the article in two columns on the right page as most music magazines dot this so i kept in with the trend and didnt want to alter it.  i had the name of the artist in the same style as the front cover and this was placed in the top centre of the pages as if it were graffiti on the brick wall, and under this towards the right, above the article was the heading of what the article was about.  between the picture of the artist and the article itself i placed a large quote of what the artist had said in the article to let the audience have a little preview of what was to come and cose this quote to atttract them to want to find out more about this artist and what was to come.

For the costumes, props, iconography used to reflect genre for my front cover, as i have chosen my genre to be Hip-Hop i have had my artist on the front cover wear clothing that is worn by many British hip-hop artits today including a graphic T-shirt and then a black jacket covering this, also i have given him a flat peak cap and he is wearing this in a specific way to show style, also the way he is holding his jacket open shows that he is revealing his T-shirt to te audience and is expressing himself as a hip-hop artist.
For my contents page i have again had the photo of the artist from the front cover in a peak cap  but this time he is holding it in a pose to show style, he is also wearing the same T-shirt which i think shows continuity from the front cover, but he is also now wearing a grey hoody which again is something worn by Hip-hop artists and so reflects the genre of Hip-Hop, my other artists, again one is wearing a T-shirt and hoody, clothes worn by Hip-Hop artists but still looking different to my main artist so there is similarities but not obvious ones, and my third artist is wearing a polo shirt wit the buttons done up the top which is an idea i got from Professor Green who is also a Hip-Hop artist and so i applied it to my artist to show similarity in music and genre.
For my double page spread i have my artist in the same clothing as he was in on the contents page and this is because as this is the article shown on the contents page, the clothes he was in there gives the audience a taste of the article and having him in the same clothes for the articles page,i think is good for continuity, however this time we are shown part of his legs and can see he is wearing dark colourd baggy jeans which is something again worn by Hip-Hop artists and again reflects on the genre of Hip-Hop.

For the camerawork and framing of image for my front cover, i have used a mid shot of the artist from waist to top of head with him looking directly at the camera and this allows the audience to see him from the perspective of being a direct person looking straight at you and has nothing to hide, this is also emphasised by the fact he has his holding his jacket open as if he is revealing himself to the audience.
For my contents page i have again used mid shots, for all three artists but this time i have cut it so all we can see is their chests and above and for the main artist this might make the audience want to see more, and so read on, it also allows for the artists to fit well in their boxes and having this amount of their bodies on the page i think was a good amount as the head and chest is really all we need to see to get a good view of what the artists look like.
For my double page spread i have used a more zoomed out kind of panning/mid shot as i have got the artist in there from a reasonable distance, aswell as having the brick wall taking up te rest of the shot.  i have this time included part of the artists legs and tis kind of lets us see more about him and having it more further out allow us to see more of his surroundings like the brick wall he is standing infront of.

For the font and style of the front cover i have 3 main fonts used where i have the masthead as one font, whic is big and bold to attract attention as well as being simple to read,  i have the cover lines of the page in another font but in two alternate colours to separate them from one another allowing them to be close together, also i have used a slighlty different font which is more eye catching and towards the top of the page for style for another cover line.  i have then used a completely different font for the name of the artist to show that this is about him and that the person next to this name is this person and i feel this worked well as it shows style and creativity.
For my contents page i have used only 1 font across the whole of the page, however i have given different affects to the fonts at different parts of the page so that they do not look the same, and i felt this worked well, for the title i have used a big bold, yellow colour of the font and this is eye catching and shows it is the contents page, i have used te same style for the headings of 'This week' which shows the categories of articles underneath it,  and the band index.  i have then used different effects on the page numbers of the articles and band index to separate them slightly and give the page better style and creativity.
For my double page spread i have used the same font as the front cover for my artists name to show continutity from the two pages, i have then used a different font for my headng which is bold and stands out, making it easy to read.  i have used an italic font for my quote on the page to give the page a bit more style, i have then used an easy to read small print font for my article to make it fit in the two columns and have put it in a black font, and a red fonr for when the artist is speaking.

For the genre and how the magazine cover suggests it, i have not used any props to suggest the genre of Hip-Hop, however i have used the clothing of the artist with the T-shirt, jacket and hat which are things worn quite a bit by some Hip-Hop artists as i found this out in my research and planning.  i have also used the masthead to suggest Hip-Hop as it is 'Elements' which refers to the 9 element od Hip-Hop and so this is mainly what reveals the genre to an audience.  i have also used certain words in my cover lines to suggest that it is Hip-Hop by using such words as 'Rap' and also 'Hip-Hop' a couple of times which makes the genre seem kind of obvious.
For my contents page the things that suggest the Hip-Hop genre are, the clothing of all three artists e.g the cap, hoddies and shirts, also another things that suggests the genre is te microphone i have coming down the side of the page, and this represents a microphone waiting to be picked up, as if each artist were about to tell something in their articles when its their turn to, this i feel gives good style and creativity.
For my double page spread the things i have used to suggest the genre are again the clothing of the artist, the tshirt, hody, and cap, aswell as the jeans this time.  also another thing is the brick wall the artist is standing infront of as this shows a kind of rough/backstreet theme suggesting that the Hip-Hop music he does is possibly rough or dirty.

My artist on the front cover is represented from his facial expression as a serious person as he has a serious face, which shows that he is committed to what he does and the fact he is holding is jacket open to represent he is revealing himself shows that he is letting the audience know that he could be revealing things about himself in is article to come and is trying to make himself be heard.
For my contents page the second artist is represented as being 'Badass' as he has his fingers sticking up towards the camera, and also has his hood up which shows he doesnt care what anyone has to say and that he is cool from the way he acts and raps.  my third artist is represented as a more relaxed and having him looking out into the distance the way he is shows he is ready for anyting and is ready for a challenge.
For my double page spread the artist has is hand u to the camera and is looking down at the floor as if he doesnt want to be disturbed and so this represents independence as he is giving his music as his own and in his own style.  another thing about how he is represented in tis photo is that as he is by a brick wall and is in this pose it shows that he likes to do his music jus about anywhere indoors or outdoors and practise all of the time.

For the colour scheme of my front cover i have kept to a 3 colour scheme where i have black and white which are strong together and then a contrasting colour of yellow which i felt appealed to both female and male audiences as it does have a little feminisity to it although it does balance out masculinity from the black colour and so i felt these 3 colours would go well together.
For my contents page i have used te same colour scheme as the front cover where i have the two black and white colours and then the yellow to contrast and again this gives the page style and also appeals to bothe male and female.
For my double page spread i have again used the same colour scheme as the front cover and the contents page, by having the two main black and white colours with the contrasting yellow to give style, however in the article i have used a red colour for when the artist is speaking to show a bit more style and also to allow the audience to see clearer when the artist is talking and this fits in well with the rest of the page as it is a colour which goes well with the other three without standing out too much.

improvements for double page spread 7

the final improvement i made to my double page spread was that i put in who the photos were by and who the words were by, as this is used in many other music magazines to show who has done a couple of the things on the page.

improvements for double page spread 6

another improvement i made to the double page spread was that as i had forgotten to add a page number before, i have now put one in

improvements for contents 3

the final improvement i made to the contents page was that as i had forgotten to add a page number before, i have now put one on in the bottom right hand corner

improvements for double page spread 5

another improvement i made to the double page spread was that i added two 'E's' in the top left and top right hand corner to show that it is all part of the same magazine which is 'ELements'

improvements for double page spread 4

the next improvement i made to the double page spread was that as there was some space unfilled between the picture of john and the article i put in a quote from the article to fill up the page a bit more and also make it look alot better.

Pitch

improvements for double page spread 3

another improvement i made to the contents was on the heading 'Dr. Choke' which before had bits of white in it and did not look good against the brick wall background and so i filled in all of the white parts and made it look completely black and so now it looks much better than before.

improvements for double page spread 2

the next improvement i made to my double page spread was that i put my text in the article into paragraphs so that it was all spaced out and not all bunched together like it was before.

improvements for double page spread 1

the first improvement i made to the double page spread was that i made the text fit into the boxes correctly as before you could not see the last few words of the article, and i had not noticed this when i had made it first time.  it is now all in and none is cut off so the whole article can be read.

improvements for contents 2

the next improvement i made to the contents page was that before the numbers of the pages for the band index were in a yellow colour with a black outline and did not match up to the other page numbers under the categories which were all black and so i have changed these numbers all to black so that they look similar and match the rest of the page.

improvements for contents 1

the first improvement i mde to the contents page was the photos of JAYJAY and S J COOL as before they were in the boxes, but i wanted them to be coming out of the boxes like the photo of DR CHOKE and so i enlarged them slightly to be coming out of the boxes.

improvements for front cover 5

the next improvement i made was to the other gaps on the page on the bottom right as there was quite a bit of space left so i moved down the coverline about JAYJAY and then added 'its cool to be cruel' to S J COOL's coverline and this enabled the space to be filled.

improvements for front cover 4

the next improvement i made was that becuase on my first draft i had a to big of a barcode, i have resized it to a smaller size and it now looks a vast improvement on my previous effort.

improvements for front cover 3

the next improvement i made was that as there wee some gaps in my magazine under 'roots of hip-hop' and 'top 50 artists' i filled them in with 'a look at legends' and 'hip hop' sot that the blank spaces would be filled up.  i also changed the word 'top' to 'freshest' to make it sound more hip hop.

improvements for front cover 2

the second improvement i made tot he front cover was thatf for the cover lines of 'Devlin' and 'S J Cool' i gave them a black outline so that they looked better on the cover with the mastheads and other text so that everything spread on the page was similar and also this makes it easier to read.

Improvements for front cover 1

the first improvement i made to the front cover was the size of the 'E' from the masthead, i made this smaller and the 'Lements' i made a bit larger so that there was less contrast between the letters in the whole of the masthead.  i had also moved over the issue number and date of the magazine to the right to make it fit in better with the masthead and the coverline which it would have been touching underneath.

Article for magazine double page spread

Dr. Choke
Prescribes Elements with a dose of his own medicine
The 19 year old up and coming hip-hop artist Dr. Choke (John Huff) reveals to Elements that his first album will be released in the summer of 2011.  The album will be called ‘Prescription’ and is said to include 17 of Dr. Choke's songs including his two in the chart songs 'Corner of my eye' and 'Understanding ourselves'.  ''Since I was 12 years old I have been in love with hip hop and have always practised my own free styling over a beat to come up with new sounds and lyrics which I would then write down onto paper and i like to call this my book of raps.  The album has songs which I wrote the lyrics to, from years ago and from the present times and so it is kind of a mixture of my life's work''. After he had completed his years studying A levels, Dr. Choke then went on to achieve a PHD at medical school, however only half a year into medical school he was offered a recording deal.  This changed everything for him as he then dropped out of medical school and began to pursue his long wanted life as a hip-hop artist.  “I knew that when I sent off some of my songs and nobody liked them that I would need to have a backup plan, so I thought I would give med school a try, since I did have some brains for it, so that I could earn a good living later on in life.  Funny thing is that about 5 months into med school I got a phone call from Aim2Break records, and yep that’s right you guessed it, they offered me a recording deal for an album and I knew then that this was it for me, I know it’s not going to be easy but I’m putting in a lot of effort to be the best I can be”.  It is said that in only a few months the album will be completely finished and will be out in the shops by summer this year.  “The album is nearly done, we just have a few fine tweaks to make to it but it will be out in a few months and defiantly be ready for summer, and as it is my first album, it is special to me and so I have put in all of my best work and a lot of emotion, blood, sweat and tears have gone into making it and so hopefully It will sell and that I will gain a lot of support from fans”.  We then asked Dr. Choke exactly where he gets his name from and he replied… ‘Well im sure you can kinda figure out the doctor part aye? If not then it’s because I studied medicine for a while so I thought I would take ‘Dr’ from this and then the name Choke is because when I go to rap battles,  not trying to big ma’self up here or anything like that, but I am known to be good at making people choke when I lay down my lyrics and have done this a few times now, causing me to look good in front of the crowds and win the battles, so this is where I get the name Dr. Choke from”.  Being a young artist and already having an album deal is a very respectable accomplishment and there must have been a lot of inspiration gone into the creation of the music and lyrics.  “yea, a lot of the songs are based on some real life events that I have experienced, when I was 10 my mum died and let’s just say my dad wasn’t a very good one, I would most days have to look after myself and make my own way to places cause my dad was never really about.  Over the years after this I tried to push myself so that I could get a good education and prove to myself that I could do it without my dad’s help but all I really wanted to be was an emcee.  Events such as these are the kinda thing that I’m sure many people out there can relate to which is why you will find a lot of stories like these on my songs, but on a few songs there are just short raps or skits, which is basically free styling I did in the studio with a bit of comedy in them which the recorders and myself thought would be good to have on the album”.  So now after the release of your singles 'Corner of my eye' which reached number 4 in the charts and 'Understanding ourselves' which managed to get to an impressive number 2 in the charts, how well do you think this album will do for you and your career? “Well ya know, I’m very appreciative of the fans who bought my singles and allowed them to get so close to the very top of the charts, it makes me so happy to see that the effort I put in pays off and that relief you get when you know you have a good song is just incredible.  From seeing how well the singles did I am hoping that the album will do just as god and that it will get into at least the top 20 albums, as for my career, I am wishing that it will sell well and so I can continue making songs and being able to sell these, but what artist doesn’t want this aye? Exactly, so really all I want is for it to do well and so I can make my mum proud although I know she is already”.

Evaluation of test photographs

for my front cover of my magazine the test shots i took were of my artist with a white background which i am going to later on cut around and then apply a background i will create for my front cover.  i have taken about 20 photographs of the artist in a variety of different poses and have narrowed it down to a choice of about 5 or 6 which i think would be the best.  they are all similar and have slightly different facial expressions and am going to later on choose only one for wen i come to make my magazine.  this an example of one which i think is best......

for my contents page i have taken photos of the same artist in a different pose and will cut out only a segment of the photo to use as the article of my contents page to give the audience a taste of what is to come, for this i have taken about 10 photos and have narrrowed it down once again to about 4 or 5 which i think are best and will use on  my contents page.   this is an example of the main artist photograph to go onto the contents page.......

for the double page spread i have taken photos of my main artist as this is who the article will be on.  i have taken the photos against a brick wall and had the artsist at different positions on the wall and have taken about 6 photos for this.  i have done this because i want to have the brick wall covering the whole of the double page and then the artist somewhere on the double page where i can hen position him and the article to fit well together.  of all of the photos i took for this i narrowed it down to 2 which i like the best.  this is an example of one which i think is best........

also for my contents page i wanted to have a microphone lead coming down one side of the page and then the actual microphone ending at the bottom of the page.  i wanted to use this to make the contents page look better and i have taken about 3 photos for this and here is an example of 1 of them.......

Golden Spiral

The golden spiral is a geometric shape that is used on photographs and when applied on top of a photograph, it shows us where the eye line will be taken to at the point of looking at a photograph.  this help me when taking my photographs for my magazine.

these are my two examples of using the golden spiral and have put them onto 2 of the photographs i have taken for my magazine cover and double page spread.

Pitch Feedback

After finishing my pitch i felt it went quite well, except slightly hesitating on a few of the questions, but i felt i managed to answer them.....eventually.  questions which came up were things like what inspired the name/genre of the magazine and i felt that these were the questions i did well on.  the question i did struggle on a little was about the types of clothes my artist/band would be wearing and i did manage to give examples of types of things they were going to wear and i was also given advice on this front, so that i had more ideas which could help me when deciding on what i wanted the people in the photographs to be wearing.  for the musicl inspiration of my pitch i had included 2 bands/artists which would not really appeal well in my magazine and so i removed these from the animoto and have now replaced them and made it look better and so this can be watched as the final one. after the feedback i decided that i wanted to have a solo artist rapper and i then looked at the artists i had used as my inspiration and decided that i wanted to base my artist on someone like 'Proffessor Green' and 'Devlin'.

Fonts

these are the fonts i have looked at the most and am going to narrow down two of them to decide which i think would be best on my magazine but will do this when i get closer to making the magazine to see how they look as a masthead on te front cover along with the rest of the front cover.  they include, Consolas, Gungsuh, MisterEarl BT, Orange LET, GulimChe, Calibri (Body), Verdana, Lucida Sans, Candara, Comic Sans MS.

final name/title of magazine

i have decided to choose 'Elements' as the name/title of my magazine as it refers to all of hip hop and as my magazine is going to be a hip hop magazine then i think the name would go perfectly with the genre and this is why i have decided to go with it.

names of the magazine

i have thought of several names that i could call my magazine and as it is going to be a hip hop magazine i have tried to refer the names that i have thought of to refer to hip hop. the names are:

Street - this refers to some of the 9 elements of hip hop which inlcude Street Entrepreneurialism and Street Language

Break - this refers to the part of a rap or song where everything is cut off including the percussion and then reintroduced into the song.

Elements - tis refers to the 9 elements of hip hop which are
1. Break dancing
2. Rapping
3. Graffiti art
4. DJing
5. Beatboxing
6. Street fashion
7. Street Language
8. Street Knowledge
9. Street Entrepreneurialism

Emcee - this refers to the rapper/MC but can be spelt emcee which is basically the person who is rapping the lyrics/bars.

The Beat - this simply refers to the beat of a rap or song.

final colour palette choices

i have decided to go for either the colours of black, white and yellow or black, white and red, this is because i have seen magazines with both of these schemes in and i feel that they would work best with te magazine i am hoping to make.  i am not going to choose my final colour scheme choice untill i am closer to creating the magazine as i will then be able to use the photos i have taken and match them to the best colour scheme of the two.

Colour Palette ideas

for the colour scheme of the magazine i have created some colour palettes of colours i think will look good on a magaizne from research and my own knowledge.  have decided to use black and white as a definite combination of colours as i think these always go well together and then with them a brighter colour to give the magazine a nice look to it and  make it look more interesting.
